Theproposalstandsto"supportIndianPrimeMinisterNarendraModi'svisiontocreateanecosystemforsemiconductormanufacturinginIndia,"Foxconn'sstatementadds.
WhileFoxconnisamajorpartnerofApple,handlingiPhoneassemblyamongothertasks,itprobablywon'thavemuchofanimpactontheApplesupplychain.FoxconnhasexpressedaninterestinbuildingelectricvehicleplantsintheU.S.,Thailand,andEurope,asittriestooffsetslowingsmartphoneindustrygrowth.
AppleandFoxconndoworktogetherinIndia,withthelatterassemblingiPhonesforthelocalmarket.However,unsanitaryconditionsatonefacilitypromptedaprotestinlate2021andforAppletoputtheplant"onprobation,"forcinganimprovementinworkingconditionsattheplant.
Thishasn'tstoppedApplefrompressingonwardsinIndia,advisinginNovemberitwasplanningtoexpandandtrialnewmanufacturingprocessesinthecountry.
