New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on October 04, 2021) follows:
Smart home devices like smart bulbs and more are pretty common nowadays and many people use the Google Home app on their Android and iOS devices to easily control their smart home devices.
The Google Home app recently bagged a new update on Android and iOS. However, the latest app update appears to be doing more harm than good if recent reports are anything to go by.
Just in case you’re trying to get your head around why the Google Home app is not working for you, find solace in the fact that you aren’t the only one facing issues lately.
As per multiple reports, Google Nest users are unable to control lights and other smart devices with the Home app after the latest update. The issue is affecting both Android as well as iOS users.
This further indicates that the issue is widespread and needs to fixed on a larger scale. Also, generic troubleshooting like re-pairing the smart devices with the Home app, reinstalling the Home app, and more are also not working.
@madebygoogle hi, I can’t control my smart devices by TCP via my Google Home Mini or the app on my phone. Are you aware of a timeline for the fix?Source
@Google Why have all the smart lights suddenly stopped working/connecting via Google Home? Keep getting network errors? Has there been a security update that has kicked them all off?Source
@madebygoogle I’ve been having problem with the smart light. Google home is not responding to the light only smart light app work perfectly fine. I tried factory reset still doesn’t work.Source
This is inconveniencing Google Nest users as they are having to use the vendors’ apps to control their smart devices. While the exact cause of the problem is unclear, users reports started pooling in after the latest iOS and Android Home app updates.
It is possible the latest Google Home app update might be the main culprit here but this is still based on speculation as Google has made no such comments on the matter so far.
However, affected Google Nest users may not have to contend with this problem as it has been acknowledged by support. Google is constantly monitoring reports where users are unable to control smart lights with the Home app.
Also, it seems that support is checking with the relevant team and is gathering more info from affected users. This further indicates that a fix for this issue might be in the works.
However, Google support has not shed any details regarding a proper fix so it is unclear how long it will take to address this problem. Moreover, no timeline regarding a fix has been provided by the tech giant.
Hopefully, Google soon resolves the aforementioned problem where users are unable to control smart lights and other smart devices with the Home app so that they can do so without any hassle.
That said, we will keep tracking this for further development and will report back with more details as and when we get new information to share so stay tuned.
